Objectives and outcomes

Getting to know the technologies of routing network traffic within an autonomous system and between autonomous systems. Getting to know the process of packet routing in computer networks. Knowledge of the characteristics and differences between routing protocols. Knowledge of how routing protocols function. Application of routing protocols to IP and IPv6 networks. Knowledge of Internet routing protocols and routing processes.

Characteristics of routing protocols, types of network traffic, network topologies. IGP and EGP categories of routing protocols, convergence time, route summarisation, scalability. VPN. Access to physically remote locations, GRE tunnel, DMVPN, multipoint GRE, IPsec. Fundamentals and advanced configuration of RIP and RIPng protocols. Fundamentals and advanced configuration of EIGRP protocol and its change in IPv6 networks. Basic and advanced OSPF protocol configuration. OSPF database link status and application through OSPFv3 in IPv6 networks. Cooperation between routing protocols, route redistribution techniques, metric redistribution. Application of redistribution to IP and IPv6 routes between EIGRP, OSPF, RIP and static routes. Route maps, administrative distance manipulation. L3 switch technology. Route selection in L3 switch architecture. CEF configuration. Basics of policy-based routing. Configuring service level agreement (SLA). Internet connectivity via BGP protocol. Advanced BGP peering sessions. IPv6 Internet connectivity. IPv6 address allocation, IPv6 configuration by static addresses, default routes, traffic filtering, IPv6 over IPv4 network.
