Parents' corner

The choice of college is stressful ..., important, essential, crucial. All this, and much more.

If you make a mistake, the error is for a lifetime. The correct choice of faculty enables better and more meaningful, even richer, and certainly less stressful life. What is it that should be the guiding star in the choice of profession for every young person? We will try to answer some questions most commonly asked in this situation and resolve some dilemmas.

If you like, go ahead, if the parents are ready to support their graduate student for a long time.

There are good state and good private colleges, and there are bad state and bad private colleges. And in both cases, there are instances where there is a reasonable suspicion that diplomas are sold, and there are colleges whose degrees are gained by commitment.

If a student does not want to be "troubled" but to leisurely "get" a diploma, he should know that "easy" colleges already acquired a bad reputation, and employers do not even consider candidates with "easily gained" diplomas.

Conditions for budget studies are becoming sharper all the time, and the day is not far when this benefit will be possible only for a few of the best who pass all exams and with distinction. On the other hand, private colleges also provide free education for the best students.

Money spent on studying should be viewed as an investment. If the investment is more expensive, but produces rapid employment on a more lucrative job, that money is not spent in vain. In America, the best universities are also the most expensive.

Do not believe the advertising campaigns ("We'll get you hired" - "our diploma guarantees employment"). It is important to check only one thing: in which companies and on what jobs are the graduates employed, because it is the only real indicator of the value of the college. And do not be satisfied with general statements, but ask for specific names and surnames, as well as the names of the companies and the job positions.

Every company, even with only ten employees must have a professional for computer networks; American top companies (Facebook, Google, IBM ...) conclude employment agreements with our still undergraduate students, and then wait for a year for them to graduate, and then go to work for wages that are very high even for America. A serious number of large and small foreign IT companies (Microsoft ...) open their development and other centers in Serbia, because it is cheaper, and offer salaries outstanding by our standards and paid summer internship.
Germany announced a deficit of a large number of IT professionals for the period until 2030.
The company Mubadala from the Emirates will open here a factory of chips, if Serbia provides a sufficient number of IT experts and IT engineers (around 2500). Computer scientists are required in all branches of business and science.

Where were RAF students hired (Facebook, Cisco, MDCS)?
You can read about our students at Internet, just type someting of folowing texts:

Microsoft Development Center has awarded scholarships to students of the School of Computing and of Electrical Engineering.
RAF students hired at Facebook
RAF has awarded scholarships and half-scholarships to the best ranked in the state competition in informatics, etc.

High school vocational studies are the former higher schools, lasting three years, after which you gain the title of Professional Engineer (in technological fields). It is wrong to think that after vocational studies you can enroll to master studies at universities. In the best of cases it is possible, with several differential exams, to enter the third year of college. They are not members of a university.
Higher schools have college rank, perform academic studies, except PhD, but they are not part of a university. Practically there are none in Serbia.
Colleges perform academic studies, but can also organize expert studies. In contrast to the high school that can have only one program of study, a college must have at least three. Colleges are required to be part of a University and, upon graduation, students receive, in the technological field, for example, the title of engineer (3 years of study), or graduate engineer (4 years study), or master (5 years of study).
