3D Animation

Objectives and outcomes

The objectives of the course are: students learn the principles of 3D animation; students are motivated to
advance in animation; they are able to develop critical thinking about animation in the context of auteur
film and utilitarian graphics (advertising). Students understand the illusion of movement, i.e. the
properties (mechanics and dynamics) of movement. They learn about the selected animation procedures
and tools in virtual three-dimensional space. They are introduced to the history of 3D animation. They
carry out comparative analysis of contemporary tendencies. They are trained for creative (team and
interdisciplinary) work in the field of audiovisual art.

Lectures

Basic concepts and terms of 3D animation. Animation as a specific product in the domain of audiovisual
art. Ball and pendulum. Deformation and anticipation. Bird flight. Two-legged walk cycle 1. Two-legged
walk cycle 2. Two-legged walk cycle 3. Two-legged running. Four-legged walk cycle. Animal movement
cycles. Cycles in nature. Effects. Vocalisation. Editing. Aesthetics of animated film. Analysis and
