Biological networks

Objectives and outcomes

Getting to know the basics of analysis and biological network modelling as a new form of biological data that complements data on genetic sequences. Students will be able to collect and analyse publicly available data on biological networks.

Lectures

The subject covers basic biological concepts necessary for understanding biological networks. It also covers the fundamental concepts of the graph theory, the complexity of algorithms, major algorithmic challenges in analysing large real-world networks. Furthermore, it covers the post-genomic approaches to analysing, modelling and comparison of biological networks, as well as the application of these approaches to understanding biological functions, disease and evolution.

Research work

Research work includes the study of literature, primarily scientific journals in the field of bioinformatics, especially biological networks.
