Drawing and painting

Objectives and outcomes

Students learn the principles, procedures and the media of drawing and painting and improve their knowledge in the fields of illustration and 3D modelling. Students understand the basic rules of formative qualities in the visual arts. They learn to realistically represent (draw and paint) three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface. They become familiar with drawing and painting media (pencil, ink, charcoal, watercolor, gouache, oil), as well as with selected poetics from the history of art and contemporary art.

Lectures

Drawing and painting media. The concept of design. The term of composition. Golden section and Fibonacci sequence.  The concept of poetics. The notion of abstraction. Spatial composition. Colour as an element of composition. The light intensity of the colour. Complementarity. Colour grading. Tonal interpretation. Presentation of textures and materials.

Practical classes

Through practical classes (still life studies, figure studies, landscape studies) students learn the principles, processes and media of drawing and painting. Teaching is based on examples from the history of art, and especially on the analysis and comparison of the formative poetics of the Renaissance, Baroque, Impressionism and Expressionism.
