Objectives and outcomes

Students improve the knowledge and skills to produce their film ideas as well as to
get acquainted with the system of work in film production. Students understand the process of
film production and audiovisual work (pre-production, production, post-production). They get
acquainted with all the sectors that make up the film crew (directing sector, production sector, camera
sector, editing sector, stage, costume, lighting). They learn to independently produce a short film.
They get acquainted with the medium of film from both the author’s aspect and production aspect. They get
familiar with the works of great film directors and are able to analyse them.

Lectures

Origin and development of film and television. Basic film conventions (180-degree rule, triangle rule,
camera plans and movements and mise-en-scène). Movie scenes. Ellipse and spatio-temporal
articulation. Film as a multimedia work (synthesis of dramaturgy, scenography, music, sound,
photography and acting). Film forms and genres. Fundamentals of film and television technology.
Project preparation (budget, site selection, casting). Film authors and
their role (teamwork). Short forms of film, television and internet video.

Practical classes

Students watch different film contents and perform their structural and comparative analysis. They learn
procedures in video production, they work according to their own scripts and perform tasks in
various film contents. Teaching relies on examples from the history of film, and especially on the analysis
and comparison of the poetics of great directors.
