Fundamentals of Information Technology

Objectives and outcomes

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic concepts of computing and
informatics from a user’s aspect, which includes introduction to the basics of human-computer
communication and the use of basic computer applications. Students get acquainted with the concept,
meaning and application of information technology in modern society and the relationship of
information technology with other disciplines of computer science.

Upon completion of the course, students have a considerable knowledge of basic
concepts and information technology in general and they will be able to apply basic
knowledge of IT in practice and will be prepared for easier understanding of other courses and subjects
in the study program. Through independent work during practical classes, students will be focused on
gaining knowledge about IT projects, principles of development and application of ready-made IT
solutions in practice.

Introduction to information and communication technologies. Application of information technology
in modern society. Business processes and their characteristics. Digital data processing. Information
system and its components. Software support for modern computers. Carrying out development
projects in the field of information technology. Business process reengineering. Integration processes.
Information technology application domains.

Practical classes

Using information technology in modern society.  Monitoring the
implementation of projects. Project teams. Application of information technology to other computer
disciplines. Application in natural sciences, medicine, agriculture, linguistics, sociology and psychology.
Business applications, applications in the legal system, e-business, production, education,
entertainment.
