Graphic Media Design

Objectives and outcomes

The aim is to improve the knowledge about contemporary topics and specialised areas of graphic design. Students are trained for research and critical work relevant for designing the printed form of the final paper. Students broaden their knowledge of concepts and design procedures in the field of graphic design. A special emphasis is placed on the comparative analysis of selected tendencies in the field of design of various graphic publications. Students are trained to criticise design in thematic publications in the field of visual arts, after which they design printed forms of their own final theses.

Lectures

The concept of media. The concept of a sign. Relationship between meaning and a form of advertising. Contemporary graphic media. Technical and aesthetic standards of modern graphic media. Brand concept. Presentation and comparative analysis of selected designers, design agencies and studios. Typography, illustration and photography as utilitarian categories. Typographic design standards. Sequential advertising. Text wrapping with illustrations and photos in multi-page graphic publications.

Practical classes

Graphic design projects relevant to the design of the final thesis. Making a series of photographs or illustrations relevant to the design of the final thesis.
