Objectives and outcomes

The aim of the course is to provide students with the basic knowledge of theory and practice of
graphic design, i.e. explanation of means and ways of working in the domain of graphic design and
industrialised graphic production.
The outcome is gaining knowledge of the basic processes and postulates of graphic design. Students
are able to use letters, illustrations or photographs in the fields of utilitarian graphics, on the basis of
typographic, illustrative and photographic correlations. They learn about graphic techniques and technologies
ranging from classic printing tools and procedures to computer preparation and press processing.

Lectures

The concept and categories of graphic design. History of graphic activity. Modern graphic standards
production. Software and hardware infrastructure of graphic design and graphic production. Graphic
product design. Typography, illustration and photography as variables of graphic design. Printing
processes. Letterpress printing. Intaglio printing. Flat printing. Screen printing. Digital printing. Print
quality standards. Printing substrates. Special printing procedures and handling printing material.
Classification and characteristics of graphic processing materials. Final graphic processing and
procedures (cutting, bending, gluing, sewing).

Practical classes

Carrying out tasks from designing to printing.
