Information Systems Project Management

Objectives and outcomes

Instructing students to use the knowledge available in professional literature and scientific papers on the
topic of successful management of information systems projects. Students will perform a synthesis of a
large number of research studies about the success of information systems project management, which
should qualify them for evaluation and management of portfolios, programs and projects in the field of
information systems and technologies.

Lectures

Resistance to changes caused by information systems projects and models of information systems
success. Risks in information systems projects and causes of failure of information systems projects.
Longitudinal analyses of information systems success. The paradigm of a learning organisation.
Competency management of information systems programs and projects. Sustainable information
system model. Causal complexity of information system projects. Information system path mapping
technique. Software migration. Integrating disjoint systems. Business continuity. Virtualisation of IT
assets. Specificities of the domain of application of information systems (public administration, health care,
industrial production, transport, retail). DevOps methodology. Quantitative analyses of information systems. Analysis of indirect costs of information systems projects. Techniques of interpretive structural modelling. Benefits of information systems.

Practical classes

During practical classes, students selectively and critically analyse the case studies of information system
projects. Case studies are discussed, various aspects of projects are investigated in case studies; case
studies are compared. A systematic synthesis of results is performed and its results are applied to
current projects.
