Multimedia Art

Objectives

Students determine the character of their own artistic practice in relation to historical development of multimedia art. The aim is to examine or reconstitute the limit ​​and fields of intersection of multimedia art, digital art and multimedia design.

Outcomes

Students are able to determine and analyse the elements of multimedia work, i.e. a range of media that collectively affects the recipient. They understand the type of relationship and the level of integration of media components in multimedia. They are introduced to the history of multimedia creativity. They are trained to plan the stages and outcomes of the work processes in the field of multimedia creativity. A special emphasis is put on the analysis and comparison of tendencies in the fields of contemporary digital art, multimedia design, and multimedia practices related to neo-dada, fluxus, process art, performance art and ambient art.

Course content

Lectures

The concept of multimedia artistic practice. Avant-garde as a determinant of interdisciplinary and multimedia activity. Neo-avant-garde and post-avant-garde. Multimedia art – conceptualisation, aesthetics and poetics of action. Basics of perceiving a multimedia work. Mastering the techniques and technologies of various arts. Synergy and synesthesia effects. Circumstances of the composition of related elements in the categories of time and space. Examination of correspondence relations between media lines and situations regarding their mutual dependence. Carrying out multimedia exercises.

Research work

Through research work, students carry out exercises in the analysis and conception of multimedia works.
