Multimedia Computer Systems 1

Objectives and outcomes

Students are introduced to the basics of multimedia computer systems. The course Multimedia Computer Systems 1 (along with Design and Information Technology 2) should provide the knowledge necessary for the realisation of artistic and commercial projects that use the web as a medium of distribution. Students are able to functionally connect heterogeneous audio-visual forms and multimedia computer systems. They know the nature of the web as a distributed medium and a medium for distributing multimedia content. They are able to design and implement multimedia projects that rely on the web as an infrastructure and a medium.

Lectures

Students are introduced to the properties of hardware, networks and software and use them effectively in the context of creating and distributing multimedia content via the web. They analyse the advantages and disadvantages of different computer systems and software packages in order to be able to design and implement their own multimedia projects. They learn to use a wide range of software and hardware solutions in order to create a unique commercial or artistic product.

Practical classes

Practical classes follow the contents of lectures. Students learn to model, simulate and implement multimedia services, resources and projects.
