Multimedia Design

Objectives and outcomes

Students improve the knowledge acquired in basic academic studies in the field of 3D modelling,
animation and interactive graphics. They are encouraged to research within commercial art projects.
They are introduced to the possibilities and ways of using modern software packages for 3D modelling,
animation and compositing. Students are able to independently design and implement specific three-
dimensional models. They are able to place the realised models in appropriate virtual or real (i.e.
recorded) environments and to define their characteristics of movement. They are able to work on artistic
and commercial projects in the domain of computer games (where they use animated elements as
interactive variables).

Lectures

Development of 3D model and environment concepts. 3D modelling techniques in ZBrush and Autodesk
Maya software. Hard-surface modelling and organic modelling. Textures. Rigging and animation.
Simulation of physical properties. Lighting and rendering. Models in environments (compositing in video
games and film). Animation in the context of specific film effects. Animation in the context of multimedia.

Practical classes

Students carry out projects tasks. They design and implement a series of exercises in the field of 3D animation,
compositing and interactive graphics. They work with ZBrush and Autodesk Maya software tools.
