Music Production 2

Objectives and outcomes

Students are familiar with different sound mixing techniques.  They learn about different aspects of mixing such as balance and sound definition, critical listening and perception, mixer, monitors, measuring instruments, phase and panoramic controls, dynamic and frequency processors, effects, automation of audio materials. Practically, they are trained to set up mixing sessions of different genres, that is, for multimedia solutions where sound is one of the basic parameters.

Lectures

Music concepts and mixing processes. Learning, critical listening and analysing audio material. Different mixing methods and analyses. Mono and stereo sound. Levels of different sound frequencies. Mixing using monitors and headphones. Amplitudes. Mean value of peaks and sound levels. Creating channel groups. Frequency spectrum. Dynamics and different types of software plug-ins with Pro Tools software.

Practical classes

Students are introduced to the Waves software package which contains 66 software plugins for different types of mixing techniques. This package also includes plugins for noise reduction and the reduction of other problems that may occur in recorded audio materials.
