Selected Chapters in Computational Biology

Objectives and Outcomes

Discovery, development and implementation of computer algorithms and software tools with the aim of
enabling a better understanding of biological processes. Students acquire deeper theoretical and
practical knowledge of specific current problems and methods of computational biology. They are trained
for independent research work in the chosen field.

Lectures

Mathematical modelling of the structure and function of biological macromolecules. Motif recognition in
genomic and proteomic sequences. Bioinformatics approach to immunology problems. Comparative
analyses of bioinformatics materials. Sequencing, assembly and analysis of genomes and
transcriptomes. Improvement of theoretical foundations and algorithms for microarray analysis.

Research work

Studying the literature, primarily scientific journals in the field of computational biology.
