STAGE DESIGN

Objectives and outcomes

Students acquire a basic knowledge of theory and practice of stage architecture, techniques and
design. Students learn the principles of stage design. They are trained to understand and compare
trends in stage design. They learn about the interdisciplinary feature of stage design, i.e. the
correlations of architectural and theatrical elements in creating a stage event. They are introduced to
stage architecture and techniques.

Lectures

Students learn the characteristics of stage design. They learn about the stage design as an
interdisciplinary artistic practice which integrates architecture, performing and visual arts. They are
introduced to the concepts of scenography and the standards of creating a scenery when it comes to
various stage events. They learn about stage design media. They get acquainted with theatrical and non-
theatrical practices of stage design.

Practical classes

Students create a relationship between space and events. They connect a certain dramatic action
with the choice and design of space.
