Wireless sensor networks

Objectives and outcomes

Introduction to the principles of wireless sensor networks. Acquiring knowledge of possibilities and
limitations of wireless sensor network systems. Students are able to design wireless sensor network
systems for various applications. They analyse the characteristics of wireless sensor networks to the
extent necessary for the integration of such systems into broader information systems.

Lectures

Definition of wireless sensor networks. Node hardware structures in wireless sensor networks. Wireless
sensor network system architecture. Routing protocols. Application development for wireless sensor
networks. Operating systems and software paradigms. Safety, reliability, and fault tolerance. Machine
learning in wireless sensor networks. Energy efficiency at the level of nodes and the whole system.

Research work

Analysis and design of wireless sensor networks. Studying scientific journals and other literature,
students extend the knowledge gained in lectures. In addition to working with the professor, students are
trained to write a scientific paper independently.
