Александар Радовановић је дипломирао на Електротехничком факултету Универзитета у Београду на одсеку за рачунарску технику и информатику. Уз рад на факултету, постдипломске студије наставља у Јужноафричкој Републици на University of South Africa а затим на University of The Western Cape где стиче докторат 2009. године. Исте године постаје и члан оснивачког колегијума универзитета King Abdullah University of Science and Technology у Саудијској Арабији. По одласку из Саудијске Арабије 2021. године, покреће институт за квантне рачунаре у Кејптауну. Александар је аутор многобројних научних радова и неколико књига из области рачунарства и биоинформатике.
